Local Animal Organizations

Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) is a volunteer-based organization that provides for the comprehensive needs of companion animals for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS and other disabling illnesses, as well as low income seniors. By providing these essential support services, educating the larger community on the benefits of the human-animal bond, and advocating for the rights of disabled individuals to keep service animals, PAWS improves the health and well-being of disabled individuals and the animals in their lives. http://www.paws.org

Pets Unlimited is a non profit vet office and pet shelter. The mission at the Pets Unlimited Adoption Center is to find and rescue as many injured and neglected pets as possible, provide quality medical treatment and find them loving homes
no matter how long it takes. Some of their dog and cat residents stay with them more than a year before finding a permanent home.

San Francisco SPCA is dedicated to saving San Francisco's homeless cats and dogs. SF has been on the forefront of the "no-kill" movement, which aims to stop the killing of homeless cats and dogs. The San Francisco SPCA guarantees to find a home for all San Francisco's adoptable cats and dogs — animals that are healthy and free of serious behavior problems. In addition, each year they save thousands of dogs and cats that need medical or behavioral treatment before they're ready for adoption. www.sfspca.org

ACC- Animal Care and Control - Although some pet owners know to look for their lost pet at ACC, many others don't realize that ACC exists or that it is distinct from The SF/SPCA across the street. Like the SPCA, ACC has dogs and cats available for adoption. What's unique about ACC, however, is that, besides all breeds and mixes of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, you can adopt birds (including chickens, doves, parakeets and cockatiels), reptiles (like iguanas and chameleons), and small mammals (like rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats and mice) when such animals are available. The agency is responsible for all wildlife in the city, including transporting injured wildlife to other agencies in the Bay Area that specialize in their rehabilitation and eventual release. http://www.sfgov.org/site/acc_index.asp?id=4430

The Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control (FSFACC) is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for the city's municipal, open-door animal shelter, San Francisco Animal Care and Control (ACC), and its partnering rescue groups, in order to establish or enhance programs of humane welfare, comfort and placement, public service and humane education. http://fsfacc.org/index.htm

San Francisco Rescued Orphan Mammal Program provides care to San Francisco's injured and orphaned wild mammals with the goal of returning a healthy individual back to the wild for independence. We are a community supported volunteer organization, licensed by the California Department of Fish and Game. http://www.sfromp.org/

The Milo Foundation is a no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout Northern California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found. Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. Milo houses cats, dogs, puppies and kittens - occasionally farm animals and other domestic creatures find their way to the sanctuary. http://www.milofoundation.org/

Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue’s mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of adoptable animals throughout Northern California. Since our founding in 1993, we have collectively saved over 16,000 animals, placing them in loving, permanent homes. We also provide spay/neuter services, animal advocacy and humane education in schools and in after school programs, and community outreach on the benefits of spay/neutering and the critical need for animal adoption. http://www.hopalong.org
